I find the staggering rise of digital technology and its potential to amplify trends in our society exciting as well as terrifying. Machine learning in particular has immense transformative potential, and could vastly improve our lives as well as do the opposite.
Smart machines already shape our daily lives, yet, most people understand little about it. I believe that becoming more digitally literate – from the nitty-gritty of cloud computing to the more philosophical concepts surrounding AI – is vital for individuals and society as a whole to continue to thrive. We need to come together and ensure that our creativity and humanity is at the centre of innovation, but the first step is a deeper understanding how big data works and how it changes us.
